 2017 Preview 


       Pell City completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region seven, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Pell City's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Austin by a score of 41-19.

       Since 2010, Pell City has gone a combined 39-36. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 6A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Pell City has managed to compile a record of 132-144. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 6A and 214th in the AHSAA.

       The Panthers are led by head coach Keith Etheredge who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-5 record in his first season at Pell City. The Panthers saw improvement from a 4-7 record the season before coach Etheredge arrived. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Etheredge.

       Coach Etheredge's overall record as a head football coach in eleven season stands at 113-39 (74.3%). His 113 wins rank th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Etheredge's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times and won six region championships. He has a 33-9 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches. Coach Etheredge won four state championships prior to arriving at Pell City, the last coming in 2015 at .

       The Pell City Panthers will play in Class 6A region seven during the 2017 season.

       The Panthers will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region seven this season.

       The Panthers open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Childersburg on Friday, September 1 at Pete Rich-Alumni Stadium. Last year the Childersburg Tigers finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in seventh place in Class 4A region three. The Tigers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Central Coosa by a score of 82-64 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Pell City and Childersburg have met a total of 42 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 22-18-2 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2016 with Pell City winning by a score of 56-7.
